Instead of keeping an urn filled with the remains of your loved ones sitting on the mantle, you can transform them into beautiful diamonds and be reminded of them everywhere you go.
Swiss company Algordanza takes the cremated ashes of the deceased and after about three months, you’ll have a diamond in your hands. A real certified diamond. The process works the same as how synthetic diamonds are made.
The founder of Algordanza, Rinaldo Willy, says that while most of the diamonds come out blue, some will occasionally come out white, yellow, or black, depending the on the composition of the remains.
And just like real diamonds, you can expect to spend anywhere from $5,000 to $22,000 depending on how big you want your diamond to be and how many diamonds you want. Diamonds grow larger the longer they are processed and one lb. of ashes can make one diamond. The average human’s ashes weigh around 5 lbs.
Algordanza will only create diamonds from human beings – no pets allowed – although U.S. based company, LifeGem does.
You can choose to store your diamond in a jewelry box or you can take it to your local jeweler to be placed in a ring, earrings, necklace., etc. Just be careful not to accidentally drop your Grandpa down the drain.
