The start of the NFL regular season just started and as I was watching the Bills vs. Jets game yesterday, I got to thinking about some of the fun touchdown celebrations that have happened over the course of NFL history. I decided to look up some of the best celebrations on YouTube which snowballed into watching way too many videos and then putting together this post.
These aren’t in any particular order.
Enjoy!
Jermaine Wiggins – Breakdancing
Check out those moves! Pretty good for a 270 lb. guy.
Billy “White Shoes” Johnson – The Funky Chicken
This is one of the most famous and recognizable end-zone dances in NFL history.
Johnnie Morton – The Worm
Johnnie Morton is well-known for doing the worm in the end-zone. He’s definitely got the form down after all those years of practice.
Steve Smith – Row Boat
Steve Smith is known for his outrageous and creative touchdown celebrations as evidenced in this video. This celebration was making fun of the then-recent Vikings sex party boat scandal. Another one of his famous celebrations featured him holding the ball as a baby, burping it and wiping its butt.
Steve Johnson – Mocking Plaxico Burress
In 2008, Plaxico Burress took a gun with him to a Manhattan nightclub where he proceeded to accidentally shoot himself in the thigh. This is Steve Johnson’s funny/mean jab at Burress.
Wel Welker – Snow Angel
Because of the NFL’s rule of not being allowed to go to the ground to celebrate, Welker was fined and had to pony up $10,000 for this little stunt.
Randy Moss – Disgusting Act
This one got a lot of people riled up, but what everyone seems to enjoy most about it is how much it offended Joe Buck, the commentator in this video.
Maurice Jones-Drew (MJD) – Lebron James Powder Toss
Maurice Jones-Drew rubbed it in after this touchdown by mimicking former Cleveland Cav’s Lebron James powder toss. The onslaught of boos from the crowd was surely satisfying to MJD.
Lamont Jordan – The Chainsaw
Jordan credits this idea to his teammate Tory Woodbury. This one is regularly featured in “Best touchdown celebrations ever” articles and for good reason. It’s hilarious!
Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson – Too Many to Name
You could probably spend all day watching videos of Ochocinco performing wacky touchdown celebrations, but this video has the best of them. My favorite is the golf putting one which starts at 2:40 in the video above, but I also think the riverdance and salsa dance celebrations are pretty funny.
Terrell Owens – Miming, Pom Poms and Sharpies
https://youtu.be/Fevwa9p3s6Y?si=rVm53EN9_7xi78ix
Just like Ochocinco, T.O. loves to celebrate after a touchdown. He clearly spends a lot of time thinking them up. Some people love it but it seems like most people hate it.
Joe Horn – Goal Post Cell Phone
If Wes Welker was fined $10K for making a snow angel, it’s no surprise that Joe Horn was fined $30k for this stunt. He was almost suspended for the final two games of the season too, which would have cost him around $80k of his $700,000 base salary.
Kelley Washington – Squirrel Dance
The squirrel dance cracks me up! This is one of the funniest touchdown dances ever.
Merton Hanks – Chicken Dance
It wouldn’t be a “best of” post without Merton Hanks famous chicken dance.
Warren Sapp – The Beyonce
I’m not really sure why this celebration was called “The Beyonce” because it doesn’t look like anything I’ve ever seen Beyonce do, but it’s funny nonetheless.
Barry Cofield – Taser Celebration
This one isn’t an end-zone celebration, but I think it deserves a mention. Cofield mimicked the act of shocking himself with a taser after this big sack on Tarvaris Jackson.
David Nelson – Hugging The Other Team’s Cheerleader
This one’s funny because because David Nelson of the Buffalo Bills, is(was?) dating one of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. Talk about sleeping with the enemy 😉
Antonio Brown – Benni Biggle Wiggle
I always like these funny quick-feet dances. The Benni Biggle Wiggle was created by Miami rapper P.A. Teezy.
Alfonso Smith – The Carlton Dance
I’m surprised more people haven’t done the Carlton dance on the field. It’s a classic!
Elbert “Ickey” Woods The Ickey Shuffle
Another historical celebration that many football fans should know.
Tony Scheffler – AT&T Flash Mob
This one is based off of the funny AT&T flash mob commercial.
The Fun Bunch
The early 1980’s Washington Redskin’s Fun Bunch is who you have to thank for the league-wide ban on excessive celebrations that was enacted in 1984. The group would usually celebrate with a group high five after a touchdown.
..and one celebration FAIL video to finish this post off. This is a fresh one from the 49ers vs. Packers game yesterday. He tried to dunk and it was rejected!
If you feel like there are any great celebrations that I’ve missed, please feel free to post them in the comments!
